Jewellery care
Silver is a precious metal that lasts forever but could get tarnished over time because of the natural chemical reaction between silver and the air.
Silver tarnishes faster the longer it is exposed to the air, humidity, pollution, and chemical substances. Also, the speed in which silver tarnishes depends on how much sulfur-containing gases are in the air.
Acidity levels of a person's skin can also cause tarnish. Some people report silver blackening on them overnight, whereas others can wear it for years without a reaction.
Different skin PH levels will result in different rates of tarnish. High acidity levels in your skin may cause your skin to react with bronze, brass or silver jewellery, this is due to the presence of sulfur/sulfides and amino acids in perspiration. The acidic nature of your sweat can cause discolouration to your skin and/to your jewellery.
This is also applied to brass and gold plated.
Good news: as silver is a noble metal, the tarnish is not permanent, so cleaning your jewellery as per our guide with instructions, the piece of jewellery will become beautifully shine.
CARE
1. Store your piece of jewellery in a dry place and in a tight container when you don't wear it.
2. Put your piece on after spraying on any perfume.
3. Don't jump in the shower with your silver piece on and avoid any contact with gel or any other chemical products.
4. Avoid swimming in a pool or the sea with your jewellery on.
SILVER CLEANING
To keep your silver shiny use soapy warm water and gently wash silver pieces. Rinse and buff dry with a soft cloth.
You can also use the following method if your piece is very tarnished.
1. Add boiling water in a heat-resistant bowl covered with tin foil.
2. Add 1/4 cup baking soda and 2 tsp salt to the water and stir.
3. Allow silver pieces to soak for up to 30 minutes.
4. Once the water is cool, remove and dry your silver items with a soft cloth. Your silver pieces should now be shinier and free of tarnish.
